56 (The Little Whirlwind)

Minnie is sitting on the front porch of her home/inn, with Walt the Charizard sleepily resting his head on her lap. She strokes his 'horns' as the Pokegear turns on.]

Hello, everyone. I hope you're all having a good day. I was just talking with a new friend, and she made me want to do 'that' again... By which I mean, share fairy tales! My home has so many fairy tales, and I love telling them to others. So if you'd like to hear one, just say so, and I'll spin a story with you!

She began to argue with the messenger, but her father demanded her to be quiet, for in trying to help she was bringing shame to their family. All the men would have to report in the next day, so Mulan was in despair. But then... an idea came to her! She stole her father's sword, cut off her long hair, and ran away to join the army. She would take her father's place, pretending to be a man! As the ghosts of her ancestors watched her bravery, they sent her a spiritual guide, a mystical small dragon to aide in her attempt to blend in with men. This was very important, for if anyone found out she was a woman, her defiance would certainly get her killed.

[One thing he has to admit: the stories he tells his kids pale in comparison to yours, lady.]

[But then he makes a solemn pause, waiting for her to continue.]

Geppetto and Jiminy were cried and cried... They took Pinocchio home, and laid him to bed. But as they cried, they were visited once more by the Blue Fairy. Pinocchio's quick thinking, courage, and love for his family and friends had proven that he was a real boy on the inside. So she used her magic to turn his wood into flesh... and now he was a real boy inside and out. He jumped out of bed, and hugged his father! They danced with Jiminy all through the night, and they lived happily ever after.

[Crow gives her a bright smile, clearly pleased with the ending ~~despite some questionable content of the story~~. It was kind of fun!]

[He clears his throat before beginning.]

A long, long time ago there was a small island. The people who lived there were very poor, but couldn't leave the island, so they had no choice but work for the far bigger and richer city on the nearby shore, sorting the junk that came from it.

One day, a certain man appeared on the island. No one knew where he'd come from, and all he'd do was stand and watch the city in the distance. Day after day, without fail.

Then, he stopped.

Oh my. What did he do instead?

He realized what he had to do and found his purpose in life: he began building a bridge to connect the island to the city.

At first, everyone mocked and laughed at him, saying he was crazy for even trying something like that! But the man didn't give up; he continued his work even though others told him it's no use. Observing the man's determination, slowly, people started changing their minds. They thought that maybe, if they all helped him and worked together, they really could do it! More and more people joined in and the construction was quickly becoming reality. Finally, they saw a ray of hope in their lives with no apparent future.

... However, there were people who didn't like that.

What a wonderful way to bring people together! But how could people not like it?

The city didn't want for the island to be free, so the security forced the construction to stop and put the man who'd started it on the top of their most wanted list. Once again, people of the island lost all their hope -- they were certain that all was lost and one person who had managed to guide them towards freedom would rot in jail.

Surely enough, the security soon caught up with the man and cornered him on the half-finished bridge. At that moment, he faced a difficult choice: he could either turn himself in and spend the rest of his life in cell... or he could become a legend. He chose the latter and jumped.

That man, unbound by any law or common sense... flew.

He... flew?

Wait, really? What's up with their standards? If anyone can fight, then who cares about gender?

[ A warrior's tale would best suit her interests, so she'll shake her head. ]

I am afraid I have not. Will you do me the honor of telling it to me?

Did they fight because of his appearance? Or... was it because of his personality?

They thought women were much weaker and less smart than men... when really, the men thinking this way were the dumb ones.

Mulan came up with a false name, Ping, and soon she proved that her creativity helped the army overcome tough challenges. She made many friends in the army, and their leader, Shang, also took a shining to her. Once their training was over, they set out to face off against their great enemy, the Hun. The Hun had devastated many villages, leaving no mercy, and had even killed Shang's father. Their aim was to take over the entire country, and kill the Emperor. With the aide of the magic dragon, Mulan figured out where the Hun where heading, and the army went towards snowy mountains. Then they were ambushed, by the Hun, led by the bloodthirsty Shan Yu!

Once upon a time, there was a land where women were only good for their beauty and obedience, and the best a woman could hope to be was the wife of someone important. The women in one village did their best to focus on this, and not on the terrible war ravaging their land. One such girl was named Mulan, but because of her out-going spirit and creativity, matchmakers thought she was a failure of a female. She tried to keep a smile on, for the sake of her grandmother, mother, and father, who she loved very dearly. She wanted to keep her family's honor by marrying well. But one day, a messenger from the army arrived. He was there to take all the men in the village to the army, including Mulan's father... who was so old, and had a bad back! Surely he would be killed!

Belle was frightened of his appearance, but it was his fierce temper and arrogance that made her fight with him.

One night, Belle tried to run away into the forest, but she was attacked by those same vicious wolves. The Beast found her and saved her, but in the process got injured painfully. Now Belle could see he had a caring side to him, and stopped trying to leave. They began to open up to each other, and had many happy days together. The Beast even gave her his library, and she would read him books. Though Belle was happy, spending nights dancing in a ballroom with him, she still thought of her father...

So what happened next? Did Mulan fight that Shan Yu?

[ Can you tell the bit of excitement and interest in her voice, Minnie? ]

She saw Shang fighting Shan Yu, and she jumped into the fight, saving his life! But as a result, she was deeply wounded! Then, with her clever thinking, knowing they were outnumbered, she used her dragon to cause a mighty avalanche to fall upon the Hun army! All of the evil soldiers were buried in the snow, and everyone believed the war was over. But when Mulan's wound was checked... her real body was exposed! Everyone in the army discovered she was a woman... and that warranted execution.

Such a tale is reminiscent of my own world so far! Please tell me more, lady Minnie. [ At least she's holding Saber's interest. ] Did they truly send this man who was illfit to the field of battle?

They truly intended to!

But you said he fell in love with her because he liked her voice, not because she hypnotized him with it! [Still, he's listening intently.] How did a bunch of fish break a metal locket? And doesn't the sun setting mean--wait, she's turning back into a fishperson? [Mermaid, Luke. Mermaid.] What was the point of all of that, then?!
