56 (The Little Whirlwind)

Minnie is sitting on the front porch of her home/inn, with Walt the Charizard sleepily resting his head on her lap. She strokes his 'horns' as the Pokegear turns on.]

Hello, everyone. I hope you're all having a good day. I was just talking with a new friend, and she made me want to do 'that' again... By which I mean, share fairy tales! My home has so many fairy tales, and I love telling them to others. So if you'd like to hear one, just say so, and I'll spin a story with you!

Once upon a time, there was an underwater kingdom, filled with mermaids... special people who were part human, part fish. Their ruler was King Triton, and he had many beautiful daughters. The most beautiful, the best singer, and the youngest, was named Ariel. Ariel was unlike the other mermaids because she was fascinated by the world above the ocean... and about humans. This made her different because King Triton forbade interaction with humans, as he thought they were all evil. Ariel and her fish friends would go exploring the waters for human things, and try to learn all about them. One special night, she saw a human ship on the water, and when she got a closer look, saw a handsome prince on board... and for her, it was love at first sight~!

Ariel and Triton...

[Ah, this story. Intel from the world where the witch Ursula was from. The one who had been working with Maleficent.

No, no. It would be better to let her finish before he said anything. She seemed to be enjoying herself a lot...]

Love at first sight, huh?

[Wise move.]

That's right!

But then, a terrible storm came on the seas! The waves and lightning tore the ship apart, and the prince fell into the ocean! Ariel swam after him and managed to save his life by taking him to shore. She sang to him, and while he couldn't clearly see her, her voice stayed with him. When he woke up, she was gone, and he vowed to find the mysterious singer, for he had fallen in love with her voice. But things weren't going so well for Ariel... King Triton was furious at her for disobeying her, and he used his magical trident to destroy all of her human things!

Pretty big temper for a king. I wonder why Triton had it out so much for all the human people on the surface?

[Well, it could be fun for him to poke around a bit and try to learn some things for himself too. A lot of fun, actually. Triton sounded like such a stubborn old goat...]

Triton was so overprotective of his daughter that he feared humans would harm her if she came into contact with them. But his anger would only cause more trouble.

As for Ariel, she was very sad, and cried and cried... but then she was lured by the words of a dangerous sea witch named Ursula. Ursula had been banished from their kingdom because of her dark magic and deadly deals. Yet she told Ariel she was now good, and wanted to help Ariel in her quest for love. She said she could turn Ariel into a human for three days. If Ariel could get a kiss of true love before the sun set on the third day, she could stay a human forever. But if Ariel couldn't get that kiss, she would belong to Ursula... forever.

...The sea-witch Ursula, dwelling in the deepest dark. A wish-granting witch of contracts...

[And then he realizes he just said ALL of that aloud. Demyx flinches a bit, and quickly waves his hands.]

I'm sorry, I've heard some of the story before. I didn't want to say anything, you look to be enjoying yourself. Please continue, I've...I've never heard the ending before.

[He smiles shyly.]

[She blinks, genuinely startled. But, again, it doesn't take long for her to smile.]

Well, that's certainly all right. And everyone should know about happy endings. Now then, where was I...

Ariel was so in love with the prince that she agreed to the deal. She had to give up her voice in exchange for her new legs. So Ursula took her voice away, and transformed her, sending her on land. That same day, the prince was again searching the shore for his mysterious singer, and found Ariel. Ariel couldn't sing, she couldn't speak, yet she still seemed very familiar to the prince. The prince decided to take her home to his castle and take care of this strange, mute girl. During those three days, Ariel and the prince explored the kingdom, with Ariel loving the human world, and the prince slowly loving Ariel.

But the contract was fixed... Poor Ariel got to enjoy those few days, only to have her love stolen away and bewitched by the very voice she lost. Ursula used Ariel's voice to try and steal the heart of the prince for her own gain...

[He sighs.]

That's the only part of the story I know of. Please tell me it ends on a happier note than that... It'd be way too depressing otherwise.

My goodness, you do know the story well!

Yes, Ursula tricked the prince into proposing to her instead, and Ariel was left in despair.But her fish friends found her, and told her about Ursula's trick, and they helped Ariel stop the wedding. The fish friends shattered the necklace, and Ariel could sing again! The Prince broke out of his spell, and realized Ariel was the mystery singer, and he confessed his love.

They were just about to have true love's kiss... when the sun set!

That means...Oh, no.

Ariel was going to lose the contract one way or another. Did they find a way to break the contract?!

Not only did Ariel turn back into a mermaid, but now she was Ursula's slave! King Triton begged Ursula to let her go, and Ursula said she would only release Ariel if he handed over his magic trident. Triton agreed, and Ursula used the power of the trident to control the seas! Combined with her spells, she had enough power to rule the world! But the prince wasn't going to lose Ariel again, and he grabbed a ship to find his true love, and take on Ursula. The lovers worked together, and steered their ship right into the evil sea witch, stabbing her in her wicked heart, getting rid of her for good!

What a dangerous gambit...He could have gotten killed! Ursula could have just made the seas swallow the ship whole!

But, with Ursula gone that means the Trident was back in Tritons hands...or...Ariel's?

True love can give power and confidence when its needed most. With Ursula defeated, the trident returned to Triton's hands.

But now Ariel and the prince couldn't be together. He was a human, and she was a mermaid. Triton saw how sad Ariel was, and how deeply the two loved each other... and knew it was time to let his daughter go. He used the trident's power to turn Ariel into a human permanently. She thanked her father, and told him she would always love him.

Ariel and the prince were married, and they lived happily ever after.

So he finally set aside the grudge? I guess love can make people open their eyes and see past their own shortsightedness.

[He grins.]

I'm glad the story ends happily, I wish I could have heard the better parts sooner, though.

I have to say, it is strange to be first meeting you like this...when we're both humans. I was told you were here by a mutual friend, but I haven't said anything before now because...

she actually chuckles a little.]

Oh my, I'm so sorry if I've made you so nervous, dear.

Yes, I know about the Organization, and what it has done. But I know not everyone who was a part of that group was filled with only darkness. I've made friends from the darkness before... Roxas, Xion, and even those I used to be afraid of, I think of as trustworthy companions. In this world, where you can step back and think... miracles can happen.

I'm not afraid, Demyx. It's nice to meet you.

[A long, relieved sigh.]

[Because, really. When the woman who is basically the Queen of Light tells you 'we cool, man' how much better can it get? Demyx eventually musters up that shy smile again and reaches up to scratch his head sheepishly.]

If only more people had that kind of thinking, maybe it would be a little different in the worlds. Not all of us want to cause trouble...Many of us just honestly wanted to find our hearts and be whole again...

Well, I will have you know that since you're my friend now, you don't need to call me by any fancy titles. Just Minnie will do.

[She keeps the smile on, nodding slowly.]

I admit, I used to be afraid of all of you... and because of that, I treated Roxas terribly. But since then, I've learned so much about what it means to have darkness and light, the real meaning behind emotions and hearts. So I know I can trust you.
