Minnie is sitting on the front porch of her home/inn, with Walt the Charizard sleepily resting his head on her lap. She strokes his 'horns' as the Pokegear turns on.]

Hello, everyone. I hope you're all having a good day. I was just talking with a new friend, and she made me want to do 'that' again... By which I mean, share fairy tales! My home has so many fairy tales, and I love telling them to others. So if you'd like to hear one, just say so, and I'll spin a story with you!

All right, how about... Cinderella? No fish in that story, or monsters, unless you count very mean people.

I didn't say I didn't wanna hear the story! Jeez, lady. Monsters sound better, anyway. I like adventure.

Perhaps I'd better start...

[She laughs nervously, and then clears her throat.]

Once upon a time, there was an underwater kingdom, filled with mermaids. Their ruler was King Triton, and he had many beautiful daughters. The most beautiful, the best singer, and the youngest, was named Ariel. Ariel was unlike the other mermaids because she was fascinated by the world above the ocean... and about humans. She and her fish friends would go exploring the waters for human things, and try to learn all about them. this was against the wishes of her father, who forbade interaction with humans, thinking them all to be dangerous. One special night, Ariel saw a human ship on the water, and when she got a closer look, saw a handsome prince on board... and for her, it was love at first sight~!

[Minnie accidentally the perfect fairy tale. Luke is stunned silent, before--]

Wait, wait. Why did the king think humans were dangerous? Did Aria have to stay inside the palace? Did she sneak out? How did she get close enough to see the guy?

[I'm so sorry.]

[Fortunately, that gets a good hearted laugh out of her.]

The King held onto prejudiced from his father and his father and his father before him... it was such an old tradition that no one dared to question it. As for Ariel, she was free to explore the sea, but wanted to explore the land. When she saw the boat, she hung onto its side and peered over the edge, watching the human prince dance and play with his friends.

But then, a terrible storm came on the seas! The waves and lightning tore the ship apart, and the prince fell into the ocean! Ariel swam after him and managed to save his life by taking him to shore. She sang to him, and while he couldn't clearly see her, her voice stayed with him. When he woke up, she was gone, and he vowed to find the mysterious singer, for he had fallen in love with her voice. But things weren't going so well for Ariel... King Triton was furious at her for disobeying him, and he used his magical trident to destroy all of her human things!

You're rushing too much again! Stop it!

[I'm sorry he's so bossy--no I'm not.]

What happened to the rest of the ship and the crew? And how could he fall in love with her just from hearing her voice? That's dumb! Where did the king get a magic triton from, anyway? And where did Ariel get human stuff if she never went on land?

[wow, you're worse than Kimblee. She pauses trying to think of all the answers.]

Hm... the rest of the ship and the crew were all right, only the prince needed saving. As for the trident... it was inherited! Yes, he got it from his father, and his father, and so on. As for Ariel's collection, she found things that humans dropped into the water by accident.

Should I only go one sentence at a time now?

You still didn't explain how he fell in love with her just from her voice. Did she use an Arte on him or something?

I don't know what an 'Arte' is... but sometimes, love can be very unpredictable. It can be at first sight, at first sound... when love takes hold, it doesn't matter how. He just knew from the bottom of his heart that he had to find her and be with her... that this would be the woman to make him happy.

[Luke tilts his head away for a moment, contemplative. He didn't feel like that towards Natalia. Did the Prince in the story have a girl he was forced to marry? He thinks about his parents, about how distant his father is, about the way even his mother calls him 'His Grace'. He's not sure how much he believes in this mushy lovey-dovey stuff.]

[He doesn't really want to dwell on it.]

I guess. Whatever, you can keep going now.

As for Ariel, she was very sad, and cried and cried... but then she was lured by the words of a dangerous sea witch named Ursula. Ursula had been banished from their kingdom because of her dark magic and deadly deals. Yet she told Ariel she was now good, and wanted to help Ariel in her quest for love. She said she could turn Ariel into a human for three days. If Ariel could get a kiss of true love before the sun set on the third day, she could stay a human forever. But if Ariel couldn't get that kiss, she would belong to Ursula... forever.

Well that's easy. All she has to do is sing to the guy, right?

Now if it was that easy, it wouldn't be much of a story, now would it?

[She winks.]

Ariel was so in love with the prince that she agreed to the deal. But Ursula said every deal has a price... Ariel had to give her voice in order to be given legs. So Ursula took her voice away, and transformed her, sending her on land. That same day, the prince was again searching the shore for his mysterious singer, and found Ariel. Ariel couldn't sing and speak, yet she still seemed very familiar to the prince. The prince decided to take her home to his castle and take care of this strange, mute girl. During those three days, Ariel and the prince explored the kingdom, with Ariel loving the human world, and the prince slowly loving Ariel.

Wait, so she agreed to a deal with some shady lady who'd been banished from the kingdom, who was gonna make her a mute? Just for some guy she didn't even know the name of?

[SOUNDS AWFULLY SUSPICIOUS TO HIM.]

And why did the prince just suddenly decide to take a strange girl into the castle? You can't do that! There are guards and stuff, and protocols! They'd probably think she was diseased or something and throw her out. And how can he fall in love with a girl he's never met in three days?!

Love can make you do crazy things. It's a bit difficult to explain to someone who's never been in love, but it makes you more open, more trusting, and able to believe in anything. As for the prince, he was very kind, and wanted to help her. He was even ready to give up the hunt for the "mystery girl" in order to be with Ariel.

[He'll just have to take her word for it.]

Man, this story's mushy. Where's the action?

[Translation: do continue, dear madam.]

Now, hm... oh, yes.

Ursula had been watching this entire time, and she was not happy. On that third day, she turned herself into a human, and used Ariel's voice locked up in a lovely necklace to hypnotize the prince. Under her spell, the prince proposed to Ursula, and Ariel lost all hope. But her fish friends found her, and told her about Ursula's trick, and they helped Ariel stop the wedding. The fish friends shattered the necklace, and Ariel could sing again! The Prince broke out of his spell, and realized Ariel was the mystery singer, and confessed his love.

They were just about to have true love's kiss... when the sun set!

But you said he fell in love with her because he liked her voice, not because she hypnotized him with it! [Still, he's listening intently.] How did a bunch of fish break a metal locket? And doesn't the sun setting mean--wait, she's turning back into a fishperson? [Mermaid, Luke. Mermaid.] What was the point of all of that, then?!

[HO NOES]

[Another pause, as she tries to come up with details.]

He did love Ariel for her pure voice... but... Ursula's magic made the captured voice turn evil! And... the fish distracted everyone at the wedding... so... Ariel could snatch the locket, and throw it to the ground!

[Phew. Back to the story.]

Not only did Ariel turn back into a mermaid, but now she was Ursula's slave, and was bound to sere her forever. King Triton begged Ursula to let her go, and Ursula said she would only release Ariel if he handed over his magic trident. Triton agreed, and Ursula used the power of the trident to control the seas! Combined with her spells, she had enough power to rule the world! But the prince wasn't going to lose Ariel again, and he grabbed a ship to find his true love, and take on Ursula. The lovers worked together, and steered their ship to pierce the evil witch in her wicked heart, destroying her for good.

[NICE SAVE, MINNIE.]

They stabbed her...with a boat? Why didn't she just use her magical trident to sink them?

She was so arrogant in her victory, she thought nothing could stop her! She never would have guessed that the prince and Ariel would unite to defeat her. But her pride led to her fall.

The trident was returned to Triton, but now Ariel and the prince couldn't be together. He was a human, and she was a mermaid. Triton saw how sad Ariel was, and how deeply the two loved each other... and knew it was time to let his daughter go. He used the trident's power to turn Ariel into a human permanently. She thanked her father, and told him she would always love him.

Ariel and the prince were married, and they lived happily ever after.

Wait, they were married? Just like that? She'd never seen her father again? She'd only been a human for three days! What if she hated it?

[THE STORY IS OVER AND YOU'RE STILL WHINING.]

She never hated it, she always loved it! She loved being a human and she loved the prince!

[Luke's life in a nutshell, right there.]

I don't get it, though. He's a prince, right? Why does he get to pick who he marries?

[Because it's a fairy tale, Luke, also your life is not, in fact, an accurate microcosm for all of human existence.]

[She blinks. Now that's an emotionally loaded question, she can tell.]

Usually in these kind of stories, royalty has the power to do almost anything they want... but no matter what title you do or don't have, love should be a choice for anyone.
